Post-Winter Inspection: Critical Areas to Check on Your Truck

Post-Winter Inspection: Critical Areas to Check on Your Truck

Winter conditions place accumulated mechanical stress on multiple truck systems. Low temperatures, moisture, road salt, and heavy operation on demanding routes accelerate wear on critical components. A thorough post-winter inspection is essential to prevent operational failures and maintain safety compliance.

Brake System: Your First Priority

Moisture and road residue can cause corrosion in brake drums, rotors, and air lines. Inspect air lines for leaks, verify proper ABS operation, and confirm that automatic slack adjusters are correctly set. Check brake pad or lining thickness and look for signs of overheating. Addressing brake wear early helps prevent costly downtime and potential CSA violations.

Electrical System: Hidden Winter Damage

Cold-start cycles can reduce battery capacity. Test battery voltage under load, clean corroded terminals, and verify alte
ator and charging system performance. Electrical issues often appear weeks after winter ends, making proactive inspection critical.

Tires: More Than Just Tread Depth

Tire chains and extreme temperature shifts can cause irregular wear, inte
al separation, or sidewall damage. Inspect for proper inflation based on load weight, check tread depth, and evaluate abnormal wear patte
s that may indicate alignment or suspension issues.

Suspension and Steering Stability

Bushings, shocks, ball joints, and steering components may develop excessive play during winter operations. Wo
suspension parts affect vehicle stability, increase tire wear, and compromise overall handling—especially under heavy loads.

Fluids, Seals, and Leaks

Inspect engine and transmission fluid levels, examine seals, and check for leaks. Detecting minor seepage early can prevent major mechanical failures later in the season.

Protect Performance. Reduce Downtime. Extend Equipment Life.

A structured post-winter inspection based on technical criteria improves operational safety, optimizes fuel efficiency, reduces downtime, and extends the lifespan of your equipment.
