When it comes to sex, the four generations – Baby Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z – tend to have different attitudes and behaviors. For example, apart from being overworked and burned out, Millennials have limited attention spans and concentration levels due to excessive smartphone and Internet use. Consequently, this affects their sexual desire and energy. Similarly, Gen Zers face the same issues and are much more isolated than Millennials.
Each generations interests, behavior, and attitude towards sex is different for several reasons, including technology, how people live today, and sex education and awareness.
Both Baby Boomers and Gen X were more sexually active than the two newer generations. There is a big difference in the Millennials and Gen Xers views and perspectives on sex, and we will explain why. Millennials have fewer sexual relations than previous generations; for example, they have fewer sexual relations than their parents or their grandparents.
While theres a multitude of reasons for this, there is some talk of a certain sexual recession in this generation, which is highly addicted to the internet and their smartphones and electronic devices. They find it difficult to connect with their partners on a social and emotional level and much more on a sexual level. They are distracted and show little interest in the real world, which is off-screen.
Add to all this the isolation and other challenges that people experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic, with many couples finding it harder to maintain intimate relationships. And although we live in a time where dating apps exist, Millennials prioritize other activities, such as watching a series on Netflix, over sexual relationships.
The Baby Boomers generation was very sexually active, unlike Gen X and even more than Gen Z. According to a research study by the University of San Diego, Americans are having sex less often. About 23% of people between the ages of 18 and 29 had not had sexual encounters in the last year. Sounds weird, right?
While Gen X is viewed as more romantic and family-oriented than Millennials and Gen Z, they had more challenges to conquer. For example, unprotected sex and large-scale pregnancies were more common among this generation.
Most of the Gen X truckers drove OTR (over-the-road), and they would get lost or distance themselves from their families for weeks. Once they got back home, they would be loaded with a lot of sexual energy. Most of them would end up getting their wives pregnant. On the other hand, Millennials have less sexual desire than previous generations.
In fact, many Millennial truckers dont want to drive OTR and prefer local work. Even so, when they get home, they prefer watching TV or looking at their smartphones.
It seems that the world is heading in a new direction. The last two generations are more responsible and prefer not to have a family or complicate their lives. They avoid having sex on the first date, and they take better care of themselves. They are as romantic as compared to prior generations. Simply put, they see and live life differently.
