When we think about stress, it is immediately related to something completely negative, even more so for truckers, especially if they are interstate truckers. Most interstate truckers are further stressed by the fact that they are alone for days and nights.
If the truck drivers are aware, do their part and are alert to detect the symptoms of stress, this same stress can be controlled and will serve as an excellent mechanism to face difficult situations.
If stress is not controlled, it can worsen the mental situation of truck drivers. There are negative symptoms that manifest physically and emotionally, if truckers identify them early, they can avoid more serious problems.
4 symptoms of stress that truck drivers should pay attention to:
1- Jaws with tension and headache:
Many truckers may not associate this pain with stress, but it is closely related. With the stress accumulated on the road, truck drivers end up gritting their teeth more, either during their day driving or when they stop to sleep. As a consequence, they feel jaw and head pain.
2- Cramps in the abdominal area:
The stomach is considered the second brain of the body, that is, if truck drivers go through stressful situations, their stomach and intestine will surely notice it and it will be reflected in the form of cramps, noises, burning below the sternum, oppression and sensation of knots.
3- Eye pain:
Feeling pain in the eye area is closely related to stress and increased tension. High blood pressure causes the capillaries in the eyes to swell, causing itching, discomfort, and the need to close the eyes to feel relief. To alleviate that pain, truckers should avoid spending many hours looking at mobile devices and should hydrate their eyes. If the pain persists, they should seek for medical help.
4- Intrusive thoughts
Constantly thinking about things that have already happened repetitively or obsessively trying to anticipate something that hasn`t happened yet can exhaust any trucker`s mind. If these thoughts are given place, truckers may end up losing their peace and end up getting sick.
Practising sports, reading, spending time with friends are resources to avoid giving in to stress and leave their mind calm. But if that feeling continues, truck drivers should seek help from a specialist to deal with the situation and feel better.
