The American Trucking Associations (ATA), Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) and Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) are pushing the U.S Government to remove U.S. COVID-19 entry requirements that have an impact on non-U.S. citizens and taking to account the Canadian trucking industry.
This request arises after The Canadian Government decided to eliminate its cross-border vaccine requirement the beginning of October. At that moment, OOIDA requested to U.S Government follow the Canadian decision. Few days following ATA and CTA sent a joint letter to U.S government making the same request.
In the letter, CTA and ATA incited Washington`s officials to inform mutual changes in the U.S and took the opportunity to remind that truckers were considered essential workers and didn`t have restriction crossing Canada-U.S border at the beginning of the pandemic. Truckers were able to transport and deliver much needed cargos to Canada and the U.S.
Considering that Canada is the most important export market for the U.S and that the transportation of cargo between the United States and Canada is made by truck the CTA reaffirm that it`s important that U.S Government adopts the same measure regarding cross-border vaccine requirement. This reciprocity will increase the freight capacity and will optimize the trucking service for both countries.
