The California Air Resources Board (CARB) has approved nearly $35 million in funding to expand access to zero-emission trucks, buses, and equipment, with a special focus on small businesses. This initiative aims to modernize medium- and heavy-duty fleets while improving air quality across the state.
The 2024-25 Funding Plan includes financial assistance for rentals, leases, and loans, helping small businesses overcome economic barriers in their transition to zero-emission vehicles. CARB Chair Liane Randolph emphasized that the plan represents critical steps toward sustainability goals, highlighting support for those facing significant financial challenges.
Among the initiatives, CARB allocated $5 million to the Zero-Emission Truck Loan Pilot Project, targeting small fleets with 20 vehicles or fewer. This program provides financial backing for purchasing new or used Class 2b to Class 8 trucks, covering up to 25% of the loan in case of default.
Additionally, the eFleet Pilot Project for Small Fleets received $14.97 million, offering vouchers for clean vehicles to small businesses, nonprofit organizations, and public agencies with revenues under $15 million and up to 20 vehicles.
Through these measures, CARB reinforces its commitment to sustainable transportation, ensuring that small fleets and businesses can lead the shift toward a cleaner and more efficient future.
