First Electric Truck Charging Station in California

First Electric Truck Charging Station in California

In an exciting step towards a sustainable transportation future, Einride has opened its first Smartcharger station in the United States.

The station, designed for heavy-duty electric vehicle charging, is strategically located in Lynwood, California, near Los Angeles and Long Beach ports. It represents a significant leap in the road transportation infrastructure.

Boasting an impressive 65 chargers with the capacity to charge up to 200 vehicles daily, this facility stands as the largest operational charging site for heavy electric vehicles in North America, as confirmed by Einride. This remarkable feat was made possible through a fruitful collaboration with Voltera, a developer renowned for its zero-emission fleet infrastructure.

The Smartcharger station´s strategic location along the bustling I-710 corridor plays a pivotal role in facilitating the seamless integration of electric fleets into daily shipping operations. This prime spot is poised to alleviate congestion and reduce wait times, thereby enhancing the efficiency of containerized maritime trade, a key benefit that underscores the station´s significance.

The official launch of the site will be celebrated with a grand opening event in April, marking a milestone in the development of charging infrastructure in Los Angeles County. Matt Horton, CEO of Voltera, highlighted the speed with which the station was constructed and put into operation, noting that "achieving this in less than 18 months is a milestone in the world of charging infrastructure."

In addition to the charging infrastructure, the station offers a truckers lounge with crucial amenities such as rest areas and essential services. Integration with the Einride Saga operating system allows real-time monitoring of charging status and provides AI-based insights to improve the efficiency of the charging ecosystem.

This is just the first of many stations Einride plans to build across the country, with future locations planned for both the West and East Coasts. Development of additional sites is set to begin later this year, paving the way for a zero-emissions road transport revolution.
