In the trucking industry, every gallon of fuel matters. As fuel prices continue to fluctuate, tire manufacturers are stepping up with innovations designed to help fleets cut consumption without sacrificing performance. Leading the charge is Yokohama Tire’s new BluEarth 718L, a long-haul drive tire built to take fuel efficiency to the next level.
Specifically engineered for long-distance freight fleets, the BluEarth 718L recently hit the market with SmartWay certification from the EPA, confirming its low rolling resistance and contribution to reduced emissions. It\'s available in four of the most common sizes—295/75R22.5, 11R22.5, 285/75R24.5, and 11R24.5—and comes backed by a seven-year unlimited retread casing warranty.
According to Tom Clauer, Yokohama’s Senior Manager of Commercial Product Planning, “The 718L is built to deliver maximum fuel efficiency and durability—exactly what long-haul fleets need. Its advanced compound and newly developed tread pattern reduce rolling resistance, fight irregular wear, and enhance traction.”
But the benefits of this tire go beyond fuel savings. It’s packed with technical improvements that extend its overall lifespan:
• Stabilized tread blocks to reduce heel-toe wear and improve stability.
• Contoured groove walls that add rigidity, resist irregular wear, and help prevent stone retention.
• Angled narrow grooves that stabilize the base of the tread and ensure solid traction in dry or wet conditions, while maintaining fuel efficiency.
• Deeper center tread grooves to maintain traction throughout the tire’s life.
• Shallower shoulder grooves that reinforce shoulder blocks and help prevent uneven wear.
The development of products like the BluEarth 718L reflects a clear industry trend: tires that are not just built for distance, but for smarter, more sustainable, and cost-efficient trucking.
For truckers and fleet operators in California and across the country, investing in smart tires like these can mean fewer fuel stops—and more profitable miles on the road.
