Some experienced commercial drivers have the wrong idea that their experience will allow them to drive with great skill and guarantee that nothing will happen to them, so they opt to not wear a seat belt. The purpose of the seat belt is to protect the occupants of the commercial vehicle against dangerous episodes that may happen on the road, and its use is mandatory by law.
The belt is one of the most important internal protection mechanisms of the commercial vehicles, its job is to protect us from some sudden braking or crashes that may occur on roads, avenues or streets. Some drivers make an excuse that the use of the belt is very uncomfortable. The truth is that the belt could save lives, even yours.
It seems inexplicable to me that those involved in 66.5% of incidents were not wearing a seat belt. It’s irresponsible for truckers to not wear them. As parents we must be very careful with our way of driving a vehicle, we must set an example. The first thing we must do when we get in a truck or car is to put on our seat belt.
Our children observe our actions and often imitate them. By setting an example, we must protect our children and prevent them from acquiring bad habits that could put their lives at risk. As a father, that’s something that I could never forgive. Always use your belt, even if you are driving a short distance. If you are carrying passengers, make sure they are also wearing their seat belts. The use of the belt is mandatory and not wearing it is a violation of section 392.16 of the FMCSA.
Not using the belt increases the chances of dying by 25 times. The seat belt will prevent you from being ejected from the vehicle by force of impact, being dragged and scratched on the ground or crushed by your own vehicle or someone else. Although good drivers do not usually cause accidents, they may be involved in an accident caused by a bad driver, bad weather, mechanical failure, a tire explosion, etc.
The use of a seat belt prevents injuries, vehicle ejections, deaths and protects the head and spinal cord. So, please don`t make the mistake of overconfidence. Buckle up and avoid risking your life. Your family will thank you. Have a nice day and a safe trip. Remember to hear a click every time you get in a vehicle.
